About Laurie Tew

My inspiration for Oak City Etiquette stems from over three decades of volunteering with children and my personal experience as a parent and grandparent.

Witnessing the transformative power of good manners and social skills in children, I realized the critical need to impart these life-enhancing tools to people of all ages. With a desire to nurture confidence and success in various social and professional settings, Oak City Etiquette was born.

My fascination with manners and etiquette dates back to childhood, deeply rooted in family values. My formal education in etiquette began at age 15 and has since developed into extensive experience marked by milestones such as Children’s Etiquette Certification from The Charleston School of Protocol and Etiquette. With a rich background in childcare, hospitality, and successful entrepreneurship, I bring a unique and seasoned perspective to this field.

Oak City Etiquette is a tribute to my hometown, Raleigh, NC — the “City of Oaks.” Drawing inspiration from the stately oaks that grace our city, Oak City Etiquette’s mission is to cultivate individuals who stand firm in their values, extending kindness and courtesy, much like the mighty oak provides shelter and strength to its surroundings.

We offer an array of services, from children’s classes to family-oriented dining and manners sessions, and specialized tea etiquette programs.

Tailored private sessions and group workshops are also part of our diverse offerings, catering to a wide range of ages and needs.

At Oak City Etiquette, we believe that etiquette is not just a set of rules but a lifestyle of respect, consideration, and honesty. Rooted in my Christian faith, our teachings align with principles of kindness and integrity, focusing on making others feel at ease and respected.

To ensure our teachings are contemporary and relevant, I engage in continuous learning, staying abreast of the evolving etiquette landscape influenced by cultural shifts and technological advancements

My passion for this industry is deeply personal. Helping others refine their social skills brings me immense joy. Inspired by industry leaders such as Cindy Grosso, The Emily Post Institute, and Dorothea Johnson, I continuously seek to grow and inspire.

Beyond my professional pursuits, I cherish time with my family, engage in church and missions work, and enjoy traveling, antiquing, hosting gatherings, and indulging in my love for NASCAR.

Together, let’s embrace the journey of becoming our best selves, with the grace and ease of an oak tree firmly rooted and standing tall in the City of Oaks.
